Home Docs received a phone call this morning while I was on the phone speaking to a patient and the person did not leave a message. As soon as I got off the phone, I called the number back just to make sure the person that called didn't need something from us. After the person answered she said...that is what I like about you, you always call back. She informed me that her mother had passed and wanted to us know. She was appreciative of all the home visits from Dr. Montes and staff over the years and wanted us to know. She appreciated that we care about our patients and also their families.
She also spoke of how important it is to spend time with our family and get to know them so we know their wishes when something like this happens. Too often, we do not make or take the time to talk about important issues that are challenges in life such as when a loved one is on their death bed or terminally ill. These situations are almost always...out of our comfort zones.
Fortunately, in this case, the family knew their mom's wishes and respected her wishes. They were able to spend her last few weeks together, talking and sharing thoughts and memories that will be shared throughout the years.
Respect and Love are the key words here. We need to love and respect each other always. Don't wait another day to tell someone you love and respect just that. You will be surprised how much you are each BLESSED!
